Background of the Study

Social media political marketing has become essential for political candidates seeking to build a robust digital presence and secure electoral success. In Kano, a political candidate has adopted a comprehensive social media strategy that includes targeted advertisements, interactive posts, and live engagement sessions. This digital approach is designed to increase brand visibility, build voter trust, and ultimately, improve electoral outcomes (Bello, 2023). The study investigates how social media marketing tactics—such as influencer endorsements, video campaigns, and targeted messaging—affect voter behavior and candidate performance in elections. By analyzing engagement metrics, sentiment data, and voter feedback, the research aims to determine whether a strong social media presence directly correlates with improved electoral success. Moreover, the study examines challenges including digital misinformation, online polarization, and algorithm-driven content distribution that may undermine the effectiveness of these strategies. Mixed-methods research, combining quantitative analytics and qualitative interviews with campaign staff and voters, is employed to provide a holistic view of the candidate’s digital performance (Bello, 2024).

Statement of the Problem

Despite the heavy investment in social media marketing by political candidates, there is limited empirical evidence on its effectiveness in improving electoral outcomes in Kano. The main problem is to ascertain whether digital marketing efforts translate into increased voter support or if they remain largely symbolic. Additionally, the potential impact of misinformation and digital echo chambers may weaken the persuasive power of online campaigns (Bello, 2023). This study addresses these issues by evaluating the direct relationship between social media marketing and electoral success, providing actionable insights for candidates seeking to optimize their digital strategies (Bello, 2024).
